In September, you can catch football, baseball, and soccer games throughout Arizona. The Arizona Cardinals play professional football at the University of Phoenix Stadiumin Glendale and the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team plays at Chase Field.

Astronomy Evenings

A novice-level astronomy talk explaining facts about the solar system and the galaxy around the planet earth followed by observing the moon, several planets, star systems through a celestron telescope in Scottsdale's Pinnacle Peak Park. This event occurs every fall, including on September 15, 2018.

Free Family Weekend at the Phoenix Art Museum

Free Family Weekend at the Phoenix Art Museum is available on the second weekend of every month. It features a special hands-on, educational programming and/or entertainment designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. Activities include scavenger hunts, live performances, story time, free tours, and more.

Movie Night at the Ballpark

Goodyear Ballpark, the spring training home of the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds, hosts year-round free movie nights playing some of the season's most popular films.

On September 21, 2018, bring your picnic blankets to the field to watch Marvel's latest hit: Black Panther. Past films include COCO, Lego Batman, and Despicable Me 3.

Walk-In Wednesdays

Local musicians and poets perform at a free open mic night every Wednesday of the month from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Tempe Center for the Arts in Downtown Tempe.

 Expect to hear a mix of acoustic, folk sounds. Each artist is allowed to play two songs or read two poems within a 10-minute set.

Arizona Restaurant Week

About 100 fine dining establishments in the Greater Phoenix area offer a three-course meal during Arizona Restaurant Week. The goal is to get locals to try new restaurants or cuisines in the area by featuring an affordable prix fixe lunch or dinner menu. Arizona Restaurant Week's fall 2018 season occurs between September 21-30.

Art Walks

All across the state, there are free monthly art walks, where galleries and studios open their doors to residents and visitors alike. Besides art exhibits, there are also live music performances and family-friendly activities. Check out the 2nd Friday Night Out in Mesa along Main Street; the Downtown Chandler Art Walk, which features more than 70 artisans on the third Friday of the month; the Scottsdale ArtWalk in the city's Art District every Thursday evening; and First Friday, where more than 80 downtown Phoenix galleries display their work.

Birds 'n Beer

Birds 'n' Beer offers local professionals a fun and refreshing way to learn about Arizona birds and other wildlife while networking with fellow nature-lovers.

Have a cold brew while enjoying an enlightening and lively presentation on Arizona nature at the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center in Phoenix. Birds 'n Beer happens the third Thursday of every month.

Ballet Under the Stars

This show is bound to be one you'll never forget. Join Ballet Arizona for free outdoor ballet performances from September 12-15, 2018. The dramatic shows will be put on in parks around the Greater Phoenix area, including Fountain Park, Estrella Lakeside Amphitheater, and the Tempe Sports Complex. Thousands of onlookers bring picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks to watch the evening al fresco shows.

Brazilian Day Arizona Festival

This is the largest celebration of Brazilian art and culture in Arizona, bringing together Arizona's Brazilian community in honor of Brazilian Independence Day to share a rich and diverse cultural and artistic heritage.

This Scottsdale festival will be presented on September 22, 2018.

Fiesta Septiembre 

Fiesta Septiembre kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month in Arizona with Mariachi groups; folklorico dancers; salsa, guacamole, and margarita contests; an outdoor mercado; a food and beverage cantina; and historic photo exhibits; The event on September 1, 2018, marks its 30th anniversary.

Meet Me Downtown

Meet Me Downtown is a social, self-guided walk around downtown Phoenix that occurs every Monday in September. You can walk or run the three to five miles—or just go to mingle. The whole free evening is extremely casual. Along the route, you will get incentive prizes to keep going as well as stamps to receive discounts at local restaurants after you finish the run.

Motorcycles on Main

Bikers should head to Mesa for Motorcycles on Main, the first Friday of every month. The streets of downtown Mesa will be closed off to bikers and motorcycle-enthusiasts who come to check out the hot rods and enjoy live music or a few pints at the beer garden.

Rockin' Taco Street Fest

Get your taco on at this family-friendly fair on September 15, 2018 in downtown Chandler. Activities include a taco-eating contest, a kid’s zone with water play activities, and live entertainment such as steel drums, reggae, ballet folklorico dancers, and a DJ.

Sahuaro Ranch Historic Site Tour

Learn about the various buildings, barnyard, trees and groves at the Sahuaro Ranch, now a public park. The Sahuaro Ranch Park Historic Area is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The tour is free and available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout September.
